This is as Peaceful as it Gets

Sometimes all you need is to relax.

We live in the country, so I get to go outside and just enjoy nature.

Feel the breeze.

Listen to the leaves moving in the trees.

Hear the bugs trying to communicate with each other.

Watch the birds fly by.

Just… peaceful.

Until I hear my two-year-old crying.

Apparently, he has managed to buckle himself into the stroller.

He cannot unbuckle himself from the stroller.

So much for the birds.

I get him out and go back to enjoying my peaceful afternoon.

Meanwhile, my five-year-old is digging in the dirt with a shovel.

The wind blows.

The dirt that is currently on his shovel blows directly into his six-year-old brother’s face.

So naturally, he tries to move the shovel quickly to keep the dirt from blowing on him.

And in the process, turns a little too far and hits his brother with the shovel.

Okay.

Everybody’s fine.

Back to relaxing.

Fast forward about five minutes.

The boys have now decided they’re going to play on a gravel rock pile.

My two-year-old makes it all the way to the top.

It’s only about a foot and a half tall, so nothing crazy.

Except apparently he gets distracted once he gets up there.

And falls down the rock pile.

More crying.

And there I am.

Outside.

Enjoying nature.

Listening to the breeze in the leaves, the bugs trying to communicate, the birds flying by…

and one of my children crying approximately every five minutes.

But somehow, this is peaceful to me now.

Not quiet.

Definitely not uneventful.

But peaceful.

I’ve somehow managed to make this work for me. I can sit outside and enjoy the breeze while also keeping an ear out for whichever child is inevitably going to need me next.

And honestly, I can still find the joy in it.

This is as peaceful as it gets around here.

Fast forward again.

I look over and all three of them are now on the trampoline.

Ages two through six.

With an assortment of balls.

And a broom.

I don’t know what game they’re playing.

I don’t know what role the broom has in said game.

Update:

One child has now been hit by the broom.

Another has been hit by a football.

So apparently the broom’s role was exactly what you would expect.

Anyway.

I’m going inside.

I’ve had enough nature for today. 😂
