Where’s Waldo? (AKA My Husband)

Have you ever heard those stories where the wife needs help and suddenly her husband has been in the bathroom for 45 minutes? Or he just has to mow the yard right then?

I have a new one to add to the list.

This morning I needed help getting our four kids ready for church.

I went looking for my husband and found him reorganizing our closet because it would be “more optimal and efficient.”

Which, translated into normal people language, means he had taken every single thing out of the closet.

I gently reminded him that he did not need every article of clothing we own.

He just needed a shirt.

Pants would probably be a good idea too.

Preferably the ones that were already ironed.

He agreed. He would finish reorganizing the closet after church and come help me.

Perfect.

I went back to wrangling four kids.

Thirty minutes passed.

I hadn’t seen him.

So I went looking.

Guess where I found that man.

Not getting dressed.

Not helping with the kids.

Not even in the closet.

He was in the garage…

…waxing the top of my van.

The. Top.

The part I can’t even see.

I just stood there for a second trying to process what was happening.

Sir.

We are attempting to leave for church.

There are four children inside.

You have one job.

One.

If he didn’t want to help, all he had to do was say so.

But honestly…

I don’t think that’s what happened.

I think this was ADHD at its finest.

Somewhere between reorganizing the closet and getting dressed, his brain decided the roof of my van absolutely could not wait another minute.

Thankfully, he eventually made it to church.

The closet survived.

The van looked great.

And somehow, despite all of us taking completely different routes to get there…

…we all made it out the door.
