I struggle watching someone else do a task. Not because they can not do it, but because they do not do it exactly like me. Its a control issue. So if you see my husband uninvolved, it is not because he didnt offer to help. It is because I want it done my way.
I’ve realized something about myself.
I struggle to watch someone else do a task. Not because I think they can’t do it, but because they don’t do it exactly the way I would. That’s not a competence issue—it’s a control issue.
So if you ever see my husband sitting while I’m doing something, please don’t automatically assume he didn’t offer to help. More often than not, he did. I’m just the one who wanted it done my way.
It’s something I’m working on because love isn’t just about serving others. Sometimes it’s about letting someone else serve you, even if they fold the towels differently or load the dishwasher “wrong.”
Control can disguise itself as competence, but they’re not the same thing.
